A Masterplan for Public Spaces in the National Archives

We were commissioned by the National Archives to develop a masterplan for public spaces within their building on Bishop Street in Dublin 8. The building was originally built as a factory for Jacobs Biscuits and had a garden on the roof for the workers. We proposed to reinstate this idea as an extension of the reading room. We relocated the busy genealogy service to the ground floor beside the reception. We introduced a large temporary exhibition space for the dissemination of research at street level as well as an auditorium for public lectures. These proposals were adopted under the National Archives Strategy 2021-25 and will be developed in phases over this period.
