The Wood Marketing Federation launched the Wood Awards Ireland 2014 (WAI) as a major new competition aimed at Irish architects, engineers and designers who feature wood as an inherent medium in construction and design projects. Supported by the RIAI, WAI promotes wood as a sustainable material in innovative projects in Ireland and overseas. It acknowledges and rewards registered architects, engineers, designers and wood workers for creating work incorporating wood as the main but not necessarily the only element in their projects.

Large-scale Public Buildings, Small-scale Private Buildings, Restoration, Furniture, Innovation, and International Projects were the five categories for the award. Among the shortlisted were both the current Irish pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale by John McLaughlin Architects & Gary A. Boyd, and the previous pavilion by O’Donnell + Tuomey.

On Friday November 28, 2014 a gala event is being held in George’s Hall, Dublin Castle  to celebrate 25 years of the Wood Marketing Federation (WMF) and to announce the Wood Awards Ireland 2014 winners organised by WMF and supported by RIAI.
