Adaptable School For The Twenty-First Century 2013

This project was a commended entry to the Department of Education and Skills (DES)'s ideas competition for schools that can adapt to the changes currently occurring in education. Titled A Mosaic for Learning, our entry made a variety of structured classrooms and unstructured social spaces linked to external courtyards and gardens. We considered that all children's activities are forms of learning and should be valued equally. Accordingly easy links between inside and outside were made.

The Department will use the results from the competition and feedback from the one day conference in Dublin Castle, “Designing Primary Schools for 21st Century Learners” to inform the future design of primary schools. It may also decide to use the designs in the building of new primary schools when appropriate. 54 entries were received for the competition with 13 coming from abroad, including teams from Denmark, Italy, Portugal and Australia.
